Based in Devon, Bulworthy Project is an experiment in low-impact living and working supported by making charcoal and providing charcoal making courses. We aim to be environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. We try to ensure that all activities that we carry out in harvesting wood have a beneficial effect on habitats and the environment generally and have received a gold award by Devon Wildlife Trust for working to benefit Devon's wildlife and natural environment. Electricity on site is provided by solar and wind power, heating and much of our cooking is fuelled by wood and charcoal. We love to forage for food in our woods and the surrounding countryside. Doing so provides a considerable amount of our diet. Living and working in the same place reduces our carbon footprint. We enjoy making charcoal and provide fun and informative courses on its production within a beautiful working woodland setting. We’ve been lucky enough to have the assistance of a number of people who have shared their skills, knowledge and enthusiasm. This has enabled the project to develop.
